I remembered seeing Yam Kim Fai and Bak Sheut Sin’s final epic Canto opera motion picture TRAGEDY OF A POET KING aka LI HOU ZHU in 1968 at the Apollo Theatre on Castle Peak Road and Tokyo Road. It was sold out every day for 3 whole weeks!

The movie I saw should be Million Dollar Duck. I remember that my dad told me there’s a “swimming pool” on the stage. I am not sure if that’s correct.

OMG, I finally found my childhood cinema on Castle Peak Road. I used to see lots of Cantonese movies at the Apollo, including tons of Yum Kim Fei and Connie Chan Bo Chu classics. My uncle also used to take me to the English language 5 pm factory workers' break matinees there too!

Apollo was situated less than a 5 mins walk away from the council estate I grew up and I had my first movie experience there when I was 5. Can’t remember which movie but it could be a Walt-Disney product.
