I think this confuses two distinct theatres

on 236 Washington Street (1900-1911) http://newarkbusiness.org/photos/theatres/index.php?cat=15

and on 265 Washington Street (1912-1956) http://newarkbusiness.org/photos/theatres/index.php?cat=115

The info you have posted I believe is for the Miners Empire Theatre that was on Washington St but on the South side of Market St and on the opposite side of the street (West Side). The Empire Theatre posted was demolished to make way for the Bamberger’s addition.

Miner’s Empire Theatre was designed jointly by George Keister and the firm of McMurray & Pulis.
