I used to go to the Royale to see cowboy movies in the late ‘40’s, the price of admission was 14 cents.

The Royale along with the Boulevard Theatres should be listed in the East Los Angeles area. To go along with the other theatres in that area.

I used to go to the Royale all the time to see cowboy movies in the late 40’s. It was a smaller theater as I recall (what does a 10-year-old mind remember???) I walked from my home on McBride in ELA. Oh, what memories of ELA. My family moved from there in 1951.

Ken, you’ve heard of it.

Also, the Royale should be listed as having been in East Los Angeles. At 5123 E. Whittier, it was well outside the city limits of Los Angeles.

The Red Mill Theater is listed at 5215 ½ Whittier in the 1925 LA city directory. This would be just past Atlantic on the north side of Whittier. Has anyone ever heard of this? I know that I stopped at Atlantic when I was taking pictures as nothing was listed east of the Golden Gate on Whittier, at least in East LA.

It’s still being used for retail. It’s across the street from the Alameda.
