Permanently closed per Google search. It may have been opened as Cinema IV in 1982.
As of June 1st the Beacon Theatres upgraded one of their screens to digital. So they have two operational screens. One film. One digital. They play first run movies. They plan on opening a third “Cinema Tavern” style screen by the end of the year. www.beacontheatres.net
Yes, the Beacon Theatres Cinema is now open with two screens, with plans to open the other two screens as “table and chairs” laid back, “Cinema Tavern” style screens, as well as convert over to digital a.s.a.p.
You are all correct. This is the former Choctaw Plaza Theater (the Big Sticky, from all the spilled soft drinks on the floor). It was essentially totaled by Hurricane Katrina, but was reopened for a short time in 2008 (?) but very poorly renovated. Plans were for it to be a 3 screen theater, but was open only a few months, I believe, before closing again. And yes, there was a small Home Depot (lite?) in the shopping center next door for a time after Katrina. That closed, too, as Lowes was much bigger and better. Now this theater has been properly renovated by someone who has renovated other theaters. It is a throw-back to the theaters before the stadium-seating, fancy, 18 screen theaters that we see now. It is well-done with comfortable new seats (no sticky floors). 2 screens, using film projectors, are open and they are planning on having the other 2 screens with table seating and food service. They are also going to upgrade to digital projectors as soon as possible. It’s great to have our local theater back and not have to drive 45 minutes to get to a movie.
They must mean Lowes as Waveland does not have a Home Depot. McDonald’s is in front of here, but sits away about 100 yards on Hwy 90. I heard Katrina closed it. Good old Katrina did a number here too. This place had 4 screens not 3. Notice the poster holders? There are 4 and just below main sign star3 is boxes 1-4.
There are several photos of this theater on its page at CinemaTour. This page indicates that the building is for sale, but also that it has “mold issue".
The Star 3 is now closed.
O'Neal Cinemas operated the Choctaw from its opening to its closing due to Katrina.
Could this theatre possibly be the Choctaw Plaza Cinema 4 Theatre? The Choctaw was located at 310 Highway 90 and did not reopen after damage from hurricane Katrina in 2005.
