Dallas Theatre

The Dallas Theatre was owned by Tom, Bob, and Virginia Smith in 1953. This is the same Tom Smith who opened the first Autoscope Drive-In in Urbana in 1953. It was located on Broadway (State Highway D) in downtown Urbana. The closed building was still standing, and was recognizable as a former movie theatre if you look at it closely. It was being used as a retail shop the last time I drove by it. I’m not sure when the theatre closed. It had been demolished by early-2019.

Bob, prior to this theatre being named the Dallas Theatre was it known as the Urbana Theatre?

I recently drove by and discovered that the Dallas Theatre building has sadly been demolished. I am not sure if it was ever called the Urbana Theatre.
