Located in the southeast London district of Lewisham. The building was originally named Ravensbourne Hall, after the almost adjacent Ravensbourne River. The ground floor was first used as a stable, with the hall upstairs at first floor level. The hall opened as the Obelisk Cinema on 2nd May 1912, with all seating on a single floor.

It was very much a ‘local’ cinema, and suffered from bad maintainance, and eventually from better purpose built cinemas opening. The Obelisk Cinema closed on 30th June 1923.

It was converted into a dance hall (the ground floor area was in use by a haulage contractor). It suffered some damage during World War II, and the first floor of the building was deemed unsafe, and was demolished. The ground floor was retained and was converted into retail use, which continued until the mid-1990’s when a new road-widening scheme was implemented.
