News About This Theater

The La Porte Cinema was originally built and opened in 1979 by Kerasotes as a first run theatre. In 2005, when Kerasotes opened their Michigan City Showplace, they converted the La Porte Cinema into a $1.50 theater, showing late run movies, presented in Mono Sound and no frills as comfort and amenities go. Kerasotes finished and closed the theater in September 2009 when their lease expired.

CineMajestic, an Illinois based independent company that also operates the Lorraine Cinemas of Hoopeston, IL leased the theatre and made renovations as there were no improvements made since it opened in 1979. The New La Porte Cinemas featured all new High Back Lounger seating, digital sound, modern decor, and first run films at the lowest price in the area. The New La Porte Cinemas reopened April 1, 2010. It was closed on September 4, 2012.

The mass makeover of the New La Porte Cinemas continues at full speed ahead! All new high back lounger seats have been installed, along with brand new screens and will offer 3D films! A basic cleaning gutting of the place has taken a little longer than anticipated but it will be very much night and day of what it used to be…thank heaven for that!
