Subang 1 and 2 cinemas was originally known as P. Ramlee Twin and was located in the Subang Jaya area, one hour away from Malaysia’s capital city.
It was opened in 1984 by the Cathay Organization and it was the first multi-screen to be opened in Malaysia. It was closed a year later due to poor attendance.
In 1988, the P. Ramlee twin was renamed Subang 1 and 2 by an independent movie chain. It showed mostly second-run features and catered to college students nearby. Subang 1 was an English/Malay/Indian movie hall whereas Subang 2 was a Chinese movie hall.
The conditions of the halls were horrible through the late 90s. It was very stuffy and the exterior was very run down. It was finally closed in 1998.
