Just before World War II, a gentleman from Manchester, who was involved with the Manchester Cotton Exchange, had a house built on the outskirts of Abersoch which was named Haulfryn. In the front of the grounds he built a squash court.
Between 1944 and 1946 the house and estate was rented by a Mr. Stansby, who was involved in three or four cinemas in the Wirral area.

Seeing a gap in the market he converted the squash court into a small cinema which he opened to the public on two or three days per week, showing recent films of the time such as Greer Garson in "Mrs Minerva".

When he returned to the Wirral in 1946 he gave up his lease on the estate and the cinema was re-instated as a squash court, which still stands today.
