A small town in middle Georgia, Sylvania, had a Palace Theatre located in the town that also had three drive-ins.

The Palace Thatre was run in 1956 by Stein Theatres out of Jacksonville, FL. Funny thing, they were out of Jacksonville, but all the screens they ran in the 1950’s were in Georgia, Couldn’t find a one in the Sunshine state in 1956.

Really, don’t know if the theatre is even standing, so many small towns were quick to take a wrecking crew to a dark theatre only rather to regret it like the folks in Washington, GA letting the Wilkes Theatre to become a parking lot. More than likely the Palace Theatre is long gone.

The Palace was not part of the Stein Theaters Circuit by 1967 so it was either with another circuit or had closed.

Bob,my info came from 1956 Motion Picture Almanac so it probably changed hands through the years.

It’s a skinny building, but tall enough for a thater:

That sure looks like a theatre to me the auditorum could turn behind a building, like the Miller theatre in Augusta.

The theatre shown in the pictures is the Sylvia. The name Palace for the Sylvania theatre may have been confused with the Palace that was in Sylvester which was owned by the Stein circuit. The towns names are similiar enought to be confusing.
