First operated by Mid-America Theaters, later by RKO in April 1984, and finally AMC in December 1985 before closing in November 1986.
My first job was at this cinema as an usher, hired in January 1981. Worked there through my junior and senior years in HS, eventually becoming manager in March 1983 and did that until I left in June of 1984, just after Mid-America Theaters sold to RKO. Made a lot of good friends while there, and the after-hours parties we had while screening new movies were a blast. Also loved being able to get off work in the summer months and make the quick skip over to the I-70 Drive In which was also owned by Mid-America, and get in free to catch the second movie, or just partake in other activities teenagers got into at the drive in. Really wish I’d have had the foresight to get a few pictures of the place while I was there, it was a nice little cinema.

The car dealership that stood there vacant has now been torn down, and a new Plaza Tires recently opened,
Actually it is one block EAST of Jungermann. The corner of Jungermann and Mexico is occupied by a bank, a gas station, a Jack in the Box and an empty lot.
The Cave Springs seems to be the “forgotten” theater in St. Charles County. Chuck’s location info is correct. This theater was at the corner of Mexico and Jungerman, right behind the Venture store, next door to the old National Weather Service office and across the street from Cave Springs Lanes bowling center. It later became Royal Oaks Chrysler/Jeep but is now vacant. Sadly, I never went to this theater. I guess Mid-America was thinking this would eventually replace the I-70 Drive-In…turns out it was Mid-America that got replaced!!!
And the Regency being closed now, too.

The Cave Springs Cinema opened as a twin with 444 seats in each auditorium…888 seats total. The facility opened in September 1979.
Located at 4080 Mexico Road (at Cave Springs Road) the venue was opened by Mid-America Theatres, which was taken over by RKO (RKO Mid-America) in May 1984, and finally AMC in December 1985. The complex closed in November 1986 with the Regency Square 8 in St. Charles opening the following day.
Yep, it was on Mexico Rd and became a Chrysler dealership, Royal Oaks, which later moved to the present location on Veterans memorial, which is the old Zeiser Dodge. I had forgotten about that theater.
This should not be confused with the old I-70 drive in, which is the Dodge dealership site today.
Paul, I went to the Google Satellite Photo and it put the theater on Interstate 70. It seems that Mexico Road only goes as low as 3700? I then checked Mid Rivers Dodge, which has an address of 4951 Veterans Memorial Pkwy, that made no sense.
My guess is the theater was on Mexico Road, but near Cave Springs Road so it would have an address of 38?? or 39?? Mexico Road. Thats the best I can come up with from up near Chicago. What do you think?
