The Relay Theatre in Nahant is on a long list of Massachusetts theaters and halls receiving state licenses as of Oct. 31, 1914. Charles Sheafe was the Mgr. and the condition was Good. The Theatorium Hall in Nahant is also on the list.

The Relay Theatre is not listed in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook which has no listings at all for Nahant.

The Relay House was a hotel in Nahant. Around 1890, it was a seafood restaurant, but it was expanded into a 40-room hotel, and later 10 cottages were added. It was also near the steamboat dock which served local steamboats from Boston. In the circa-1900 era, people did not go far for their summer vacations. Nahant to the north, and Nantasket to the south, were summer “destinations” for folks from Boston. It’s easy to see why the management of the Relay House added a cinema, the Relay Theatre. Got this info from Google.

If you click on the map all you will see is water (Broad Sound), enlarge it some and you will see a passenger aircraft, I thought that was sorta neat. Make the map smaller and aim for the red dot make it larger and you end up at Bass Point, I guess?

Sure could use an address, more info and more photos.

The people in the postcard are not dressed for the 1920s; they are wearing clothing from the 1900 – 1910 era. The Relay was probably a summer movie theater.

It is unlikely, but not impossible that the Relay is still standing.

At this point we are working with a postcard from the 1920s that states the Relay (House) and Motion Pictures was at Bass Point..Nahant MA, but no physical address is given.

Do you know the address of this, and whether it is still standing?
