Classic Airdrie

The Pavilion Picture House was opened by 1911 in a former skating rink. It was demolished in 1917 following a fire, and was re-built in 1919. By 1920, it had been taken over by the George Singleton chain of cinemas and had a total of 1,200 seats on stalls and circle levels.

It was taken over by the Oscar Deutsch chain of Odeon Theatres Ltd. on 8th August 1937. Later operated by the Rank Organisation, the cinema was one of a group sold to the Classic Cinemas Ltd. chain on 17th December 1967, and it was re-named Classic Cinema.

The Classic Cinema was closed on 27th September 1970, and was demolished in 1973, and the Airdrie Sheriff Courthouse was built on the site.
