This was my favorite movie theater as a child. It opened in the mid 80’s and closed in the mid 90’s and sat boarded up up until 2005 and it was demolished and a Northern Tool now sits in it’s place. It sat on a hill about 20 miles out of Atlanta in Snellville on Atlanta highway 78. Level with the road was a tire place balled Bulldog tire and on the same sign as the movie listings a GA Bulldog was painted under it. Because the tire place was a Shoney’s Buffet and a restaurant that was many different things through out the years. Then on the hill shining above everything was the Theater. Just to the left of all of these was a HESS gas station that was always beyond bright at night. The front of the theater had a row of posters to the left and at the end of the posters was a small one person ticket window. Inside the double door to the left was the concession stand connected to the box office. It had two lined and one popcorn window in the middle of the counter. To the right when you walked in was a small Arcade. Then a small lobby and the bathrooms were hidden on the right. Then the five doors to the theaters. Above the doors were scrolling red letter signs sayings movies an times of each theater. If I recall the main colors of the theater were purple and royal blue. But my memory says green as well. The outside of the building were different shades of brown. I have searched for years for any kind of pictures of the place but I can not find any. The city has a photo collection of the city through out the years in the art commission but it’s very hard to get the art commission to do anything none the less let you look at their pictures.

This was one of the last of the Septum Cinemas before they were acquired by Cineplex Odeon. The chain seemed to give equal attention to its game room (Tilt) as it did to its screening rooms.

the cinema was opened around 1982. i’m not sure if it was owned by cineplex odeon at that time, but it had been for many years when i assumed the role of head projectionist in 1994. shortly after i took over, the cinema was bought by Carmike, who retained control until its demise.
