Madam Theatre in Sint Eustatius (Caribbean Netherlands)

The Madam Theatre was built in 1964-1966 by Charlie Arnold. He had the cinema designed by his nephew who lived in the Dominican Republic. The style is a tiny-island adaptation of the Art Nouveau style that was used for many cinemas in the Caribbean. St. Eustatius (only 8.1 square miles)had a mere 1,200 inhabitants when the Madam Theatre was built.

When TV and later video were introduced to the island, Charlie switched to using the building as a venue for parties and disco nights. The building is currently in dire need of restoration. There are plans to use it as an exhibition space.
