The Electric Kinematotgraph Theatre was opened in 1913 with 520 seats. Later known as the Electric Theatre, and around 1921 it had been renamed Super Cinema. Major alterations were carried out in the early-1930’s and it was re-named New Cinema, now with 900 seats. By 1944, the name had changed again to Cinema.

The Cinema was equipped with CinemaScope in late-1953 and the seating capacity was reduced to 500. The Cinema on Buxton Road was the first cinema to close in Macclesfield in 1956. It was converted into retail use, and was demolished in the 1990’s.
