Hoyts Esquire steadily made technological advances in the 1950s: Natural Vision 3-D in 1953, CinemaScope in 1955, Cinestage in 1957, and in 1959 Todd-AO - it was the first Melbourne cinema to screen 70mm: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical “South Pacific” premiered February 5 for an extended season.
