Bijou Theater

The Bijou Theater was open as early as 1909, and was located at 310 Second Street W. (Second Street is now known as Main Street.)

According to a listing in the 1909 Ashland city directory, it was operated by brothers Abraham and Louis Latts.

In the 1917 city directory, the proprietors were listed as Paul O. Goeltz, Walter H. Goeltz, and Joseph F. Seeger. Rose A. Seeger was listed as cashier. Sometime between then and 1921, the Bijou Theater closed.

In order for Google Maps to find the right location for this theater it will probably be necessary to list it on Main Street West rather than West Main Street.

In his autobiography, My Life in Vaudeville, Ed Lowry mentions playing a Bijou Dream Theatre in Ashland, Wisconsin. This would have been in the early 1910s. Possibly the addition of Dream to the name was a trick of his memory.
