Times Theatre

Another downtown Waukegan movie house, down the block from the Genesee Theatre. Formerly the Valencia Ballroom which opened on December 31, 1926. It was converted into the Valencia Theatre, opening on March 30, 1935 with Kermit Maynard in “Wilderness Mail” & Ray Walker in “City Limits”. It had 900-seats. In 1938 it was renamed Times Theatre. It went from first-run to adult films in the 1970’s before closing.

It was used as a “haunted house” for Halloween during the 1980’s, and later as a church for a short time.

It was demolished in the early-1990’s and the site remains vacant today.

Does anyone know who owned this theater or where I might be able to get a picture of the Times? My father and his brother used to go there every Saturday in the 1940s.
