Grand Cinema

Located in Thame, Oxfordshire. The Grand Cinema was opened on 24th July 1922. Seating was provided for 550 in stalls and circle levels. Part-time bingo was introduced in January 1967 and the final films were shown on 3rd June 1967.

It became a bingo club, but new owners took over soon afterwards, and on 31st January 1968, films returned again with a re-release screening of “Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines”. The building was redecorated in May 1968, and a programme of films and part time bingo resumed. It was not a success, and the final film programmed was “Chamber of Horrors” and “See You in Hell Darling on 22nd July 1968.

The building was converted into a carpet store, followed by a toy shop. The building was purchased by Oxfordshire County Council and was demolished and a new library was built on the site.
