Glyndwr Cinema

Located in the small town of Corwen, Denbighshire in North Wales. The Glyndwr Cinema was opened around 1938 or 1939. It was equipped with a RCA sound system.

By 1958 it is listed with 394 seats, and the proscenium was 28 feet wide, and operated by the Welshpool based Paramount Picture Theatres Ltd. chain. By 1980 it was operating in ‘summer only’. It also operated as a bingo club.

Today the building is in use as a DIY hardware store.

I’m very nostalgic about the Glyndŵr – it’s the first cinema I ever attended on my own, for “Return of the Pink Panther” in (I think) June 1975 (the newsreel was showing that years' Derby). I can believe it became “summer only” within five years, as I can recall I was the only customer that night!q
