According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune from 2002, Jim Jannopoulos built the Oak Creek Cinemas in 1985. From the 1970’s to the 1990’s the Jannopoulos family operated 16 theaters from Yuma to the Central Valley. Included were the Fremont, Mission Cinemas, and Madonna Plaza in San Luis Obispo. Others were the Fair Oaks in Arroyo Grande, Atascadero’s Century Cinemas, and the Bay in Morro Bay. Drive-ins included those in Paso Robles and Palmdale.

The Tribune reported on April 27, 2001 that then owner John Roush had closed the cinemas. The theater was showing art and independent movies but was losing money. Because Mr. Roush was adding three more screens at his local Park Cinemas, he expected that theater to take up the slack.

Most recently, the former theatre has been a food store.
