The Aveny Cinema was opened on 13th December 1939, with Swedish film star Edvard Persson appearing ‘in person’. The foyer ceiling had a huge irregular shaped mirror, which was surrounded by strips of neon lighting. Seating was provided in orchestra level, with a small stepped raised section at the rear. In the centre front of the screen curtains was a large Art Deco style sculpture of a female figure holding a globe by sculpture Erling Walleby. When the curtain opened, the sculpture sank down into the pit, giving a full view of the screen. The sculpture was removed in 1996 when S.F. closed the Aveny Cinema in 1996. It is now in the foyer of the Palladium Cinema.

The Aveny Cinema is now a clothing store.
