1959 Aerial Photo of Drive-In location

Opened May 18, 1950 with June Haver in “The Daughter of Rosie O'Grady”. This drive-in was located directly across Webster Street in Alameda from the also-demolished Island Drive-In.

It was closed November 6, 1968. The former site is now home to the College of Alameda. Like many Northern California drive-ins, nothing remains that would indicate a drive-in ever operated at this site.

An Oakland 1965 phone directory lists the Alameda Auto Movie’s address as 2145 Webster Street. The above address of 555 Atlantic Avenue is that of the College of Alameda, which stands there today.

actually, the College of Alameda is located across the street from the former drive-in site. The site was demolished in the late ‘90s and replaced with a new housing developement. maryg.7/7/04

Actually, the drive-in that was located across from the College was the Island Drive-in, which was demolished in 1998. The Alameda Auto Movies was located where the college is now, but was demolished long before the Island Drive-in was.
