The 200-seat Empress Theatre was opened prior to 1914. In the late-1930’s it was re-named Hugo Theatre, still with 200 seats. It was still open in 1942, but had closed by 1943. The Hugo Theatre had reopened by 1950 when it was listed with 284 seats, and was still open in 1957.
