Savoy Cinema

In the small Hampshire town of Totton, across the river to the west from Southampton, the Savoy Cinema opened on 7th January 1935. There was a small stage behind a 28ft wide proscenium.

In 1949 the lease was taken over by J.H.L. Cinemas Ltd. CinemaScope was installed in the mid-1950’s, but that could not prevent the inevitable, and the Savoy Cinema closed on 15th March 1961.

After a time on bingo, it was converted to factory use in 1977. Offered for sale in 1997, the building has since been converted into flats known as Savoy House.
