The Theatre Historical Society archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Town Hall; it’s Card # 381. Address is Main St. There is an exterior photo taken March 24, 1941. Condition is Poor. The report says it opened in 1920, was showing MGM films, and had 390 seats. The 1940 population was 1,100.

The Town Hall in Howland today is at 8 Main Street. It’s similar to the building in the 1941 photo on the MGM Theatre Report, but I’m not sure if it’s the same.

The town hall was renovated several years ago so it has lost a lot of it’s old charm. I attended movies many times during the 1940’s until it closed down in the early 1950’s. If I remember correctly the admission was 18 cents for the Saturday matinee and 35 cents for the evening. Candy bars were 5 cents, popcorn about 10 cents. Mostly black and white movies, WW11 news reels, plenty of western showings, cartoons….lots of memories.
