Dromana Drive-in Theatre is the first drive-in theatre in the World to install charging points for electric cars to plug into, while watching the movies.

May have been the first drive-in to use FM radio to transmit sound to the cars, apparently they started doing it in early 1984.

I’ve been to this one a few times as its close to where I live, there used to be the original “Peninsula” sign on the back of one of the screens, I haven’t been down in a while to check if its still there. Also this drive-in has a bumper sticker discount deal where you get cheaper tickets if you display their sticker on your car. For years when it was a twin the slogan was “I DID it at Dromana twin drive-in” then when the 3rd screen was added they changed it to “I saw it at Dromana 3 drive-in”, haha.

There is footage of the second screen at the Dromana Drive-in being removed from the former Altona Drive-in on You Tube(Dromana Drive-in picks up the Altona Drive-in screen) .

The 485 Cars capacity was the opening capacity of the Dromana Drive-in, capacity of the 3 drive-ins area now is unknown!? The second screen came from the former Altona Drive-in ten years after it closed in 1992. date of screen unknown? There is now an Deckchair Cinema(picture gardens) as well! There is also an outdoor market on the Dromana Drive-in(www.drivein.net.au) part of the year as well! One of the screens can seen from the entrance on Nepean Highway, and another screen can be seen(just!) from Mornington Penensula Freeway, going south, looking left(behind the Dromana Holiday Village), just before the turn off foe Nepean Highway. The Whole Droma Drive-in is visable from Google Earth!
