Garrison Theatre

Located on the B9047 road, a mile or so from Lyness, on the island of Hoy, in the Orkney Islands, the Garrison Theatre was built in 1942. It had a brick frontage and a large Romney Hut to the rear containing two auditoriums, one a theatre/dance hall and the other a cinema. The theatre shows were organised by the Entertainments' National Service Association (ENSA), and attracted many famous acts and performers of the day.

During the war, the Garrison Theatre was surrounded by a large hutted accommodation camp serving the Royal Naval base at Lyness.

It is not known when the Garrison Theatre closed. Most of the surrounding huts have long disappeared, while the Romney Hut auditorium has also been demolished. The two-storey frontage has been converted into a private house.
