The Palace Theatre was located in the High Shields district of South Shields. It was opened on 20th November 1911. It was designed by architects, William Milburn & Thomas Ridley Milburn with an original seating capacity for 1,400. Films and variety acts form the programming in the early years. After a Western Electric(WE) sound system was installed in 1930, it ran on films only.

The Palace Theatre was closed as a cinema on 30th December 1961 with Frank Sinatra in “Can-Can”.
