Sunset Drive-In

The Plaza Theatre and Majestic Theatre operators decided to open a drive-in to replace the Majestic Theatre and so that locals wouldn’t have to drive to another community for ozone entertainment. Construction began in 1950 but the launch was delayed to April 4, 1952 with Rod Cameron in “Fort Osage” opening the Sunset Drive-In. The drive-in fulfilled a 30-year lease with new operators, Southwest Cinema Arts, announcing a hybrid indoor-outdoor operation to replace the Sunset Drive-In. That did not appear to happen.
