Jim Stopulous of Stopulous Theatres decided to build a twin screen theatre in the Cumberland Square Shopping Center. Bettendorf had two nearly 20-year vacancies with no theatres. Now it would have two twin-screen cinemas. The Spruce Hills and General Cinemas Duck Creek Twin would duke it out for the Bettendorf patrons. Identical auditoriums with 305 seats were designed by Tevis C. Freeman of Moline. Contractors were Harvey Construction of Bettendorf.

The twin screener launched July 27, 1973 with “Godspell” and “The Sound of Music.” The town simply couldn’t support two twin-theaters and Stopulous dropped the theatre on May 20, 1977. The construction company kept the theatre afloat with lower prices and only family friendly G and PG rated films. But that lasted only a short time as the theatre ended its run October 5, 1977 and the theatre was auctioned off April 5, 1978. The facility was used by two different banks thereafter.
