Madou Cinema

Open around 1910 on Place Madou, it was simply known as the Cinema. In 1915 became Empire Cinema then Rex Cinema (or Rex Madou Cinema). In the 1930’s it was re-named Carrefour Cinema and then Ritz Cinema. It reverted back to its original Madou Cinema name and was still open during World War II. It was closed on 7th September 1944. The entire block was demolished to build the current Tower Madou.

I found advertisements for film screenings at “cinéma Madou” in Brussels from early July 1940 until late June 1941. I also found advertisements for film screenings at “Ciné Ritz” from December 1943 until September 1944. Could this have been the same cinema?
