Regal Cinema

Located in Gillingham, Dorset. The Regal Cinema was built by Mr. R.W.M. Robinson who operated the towns' Palace Cinema. The Regal Cinema was opened on 10th January 1934 with John Stuart & Elizabeth Allan in “The Lost Chord”. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. The Palace Cinema was closed upon the opening of the Regal Cinema.

Last operated by Bassett Cinemas, the Regal Cinema was closed on 20th October 1963 with Bill Williams in “Legion of the Doomed” & Ray Danton in “The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond”. Within weeks of closing the cinema was demolished and shops were built on the site, today occupied by Gillingham Suite & Bed Centre.
