Modern Cinema

The Modern Cinema was an adult theatre located at the back of Byrnegate Plaza Shopping Center. The shopping center is said to have opened in 1973 with the Byrnegate Club at the back that had upcoming and downtrending rock concerts including Brownsville Station and Steppenwolf.

The club closed and the plaza became home to the Modern Cinema adult cinema. Adult theaters were moving out of downtown Toledo or being torched as the city tried to renew the image of its central business district. The Modern Cinema featured XXX titles and had both senior citizens specials and escorted ladies admitted free between 6pm and 2am on Thursdays. The cinema closed and the plaza became home to other ventures including the Realm nightclub. The facility was still standing in the 21st Century.
