The Bijou Theatre launched as a sub-run discount movie house with live acts on Ward Avenue on February 25, 1927. The first film was “The Man from the West” with Art Acord. Run by the Rodgers Theatre Circuit, the theatre lasted ten years.

The theatre closed with Bob Allen with “The Rangers Step In” on October 30, 1937. The Rodgers Circuit changed the name of the Liberty Theatre to the Rodgers Theatre on November 1, 1937 and left the Bijou Theatre empty. The theatre had a brief relaunch in 1940 but closed due to lack of patronage.

The building was retrofitted for other retail purposes including a fish market.
