The Rose Theatre was downtown Hartford’s modern theatre. A.C. Saunders had operated the Rosemont Theatre which dated back to the silent era. He built the Rose Theatre launching it on November 5, 1948 with Red Skelton in “Southern Yankee”. Two nights earlier, he had closed the Rosemont Theatre. The Rose Theatre appears to have closed on March 17, 1964 after screening Anthony Quinn in “Barabbas”.
