On May 2, 1953, Motion Picture Herald reported, “Merrill Nygren is building a 250-car drive-in at Oshkosh, Neb., using RCA equipment”. The Oshkosh Drive-In was opened on July 10, 1953 with Frankie Laine in “Rainbow Round My Shoulder” & George Montgomery in “Jack McCall, Desperado”.

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog listed the Oshkosh with capacity 250, owner M. V. Nygren.

The drive-in was on the northwest side of Oskhosh, and still looked active in a 1969 aerial photo. It was closed at the end of the 1972 season. Still outlined in a 1974 topo map but completely gone by a 1993 photo. Since WI-26 was rerouted in the early-2000’s, its intersection with Road 58A is where the northeast corner of the drive-in’s old viewing field used to be.

July 10, 1953 was the grand opening of the 250-car Oshkosh Drive-In Theatre with a double-feature of Frankie Laine in “Rainbow Round My Shoulder” and George Montgomery in “Jack McCall, Desperado.” Appears to have closed following the 1972 season at the end of a 20-year lease.

A closer address is 17570 US-26, Oshkosh, NE.

This puts it quite close to the property. Which has been drastically changed since the drive-in close.
