Skyline Drive-In

The (Butte) Montana Standard wrote that Gerald Lavoic built the Skyline Drive-In in the mid-1950’s, opening on June 5, 1955 with Gregory Peck in “The Purple Plain”. Warren Gavin bought the drive-in in 1965 after leasing it for several years. It was briefly operated by Dave Olverson, who took over per a February 17, 1975 Boxoffice note.

The occasion of the Standard’s June 11, 1977 article was the dismantling of the Skyline Drive-In’s screen, which was to be used for a bus barn at a nearby college.

The 1966 Motion Picture Almanac listed the Skyline Drive-In with a capacity of 250 cars.

A 1968 aerial photo appears to show the drive-in was demolished. While the projector booth/concession stand might still be present, there is no indication of a screen.

It is true that the photo itself is not good quality, but it sure looks like an abandoned drive-in by 1968.
