Scala Filmtheater

The Scala Filmtheater was opened in 1958 and was built by Julius Wilhelm and operated by Dr. Kuenzig KG. The architect was Phillip Wolf. All seats were in the orchestra level. It was equipped with two DP 70 film projectors by Phillips for 35mm & 70mm. The screen had the TODD-AO curve. It was the fourth 70mm TODD-AO installation in Europe. The opening attraction was the 70mm TODD-AO movie “Oklahoma!” starring Gordon MacRea. In 1959 a 3-strip Cinemiracle process installation was added and the Cinemiracle movie “Windjammer” was screened. This was the 2nd Cinemiracle installation in Germany. The first Cinemiracle cinema in Germany was the Royal Palast in Munich (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). A 7-channel stereophonic sound system was installed. The size of the Cinemiracle screen was 16.6 x 7.8 metres.

The Scala Filmtheater was closed around 1973.
