The Neue Lichtspiele was opened in 1929. It had 300-seats and was operated by Johann Hausner. It was later re-named Savoy Lichtpiele. After 1941 it was closed due to wartime conditions.
It was re-opened in 1949 following a renovation. It was operated by Franziska Lutz. It was twinned in 1976. In 2005 a 3rd screen was added. There are plans to add a 4th screen in 2020 or 2021. Since 2004 it has been a members of the Europa Cinemas group of art house cinemas.
