The Vox was opened on 12th February 1939. Seating was provided for 1,200 with 800 in the orchestra and 400 in the balcony. It was equipped with Ernemann projectors. There was also a café for the convenience of its patrons. It was destroyed by the British Royal Air Force bombing in June 1941.

The Hotel de Metropole now stands on the site.
