The Uma Theatre opened in 1928. By 1943 it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary E.J. Sparks. Sometime later it closed. A reopening was attempted in the early-1950’s, but after a few weeks the theatre was closed again.

When the reopening was attempted, the Uma Theatre was under the management of MCM Theatres.
