Camden’s own Camden Theatre opened during the Summer of 1919 as earliest, and became one of the oldest theatres' in the city of Camden. Apparently though, it was known to be Camden’s first surviving theatre throughout the early-days of sound, which was installed on May 26, 1930. It was notable for the only theatre in the city of Camden to sell War Bonds during World War II on September 3, 1942, despite Camden being a very small town. On October 23, 1946, Camden’s Alco Theatre opened its doors nearby, and the Alco Theatre began fighting against the Camden Theatre. The Alco Theatre was the first in the city to install CinemaScope in August 1954. On February 3, 1955, the fight got even worse when the Camden Theatre installed CinemaScope in-hand, and began to battle with each other at all risk. But suddenly, it all happened. The Camden Theatre lost the fight against the Alco Theatre and the Camden Theatre closed its doors in September 1959 right after 40 years of operation.

Right after its closing, it was converted into a grocery store which planned to open in the Fall of 1960.
