The Regent Cinema

Located in Leyland, to the south of Preston, Lancashire. The Regent Super Cinema was opened in early-1931. It had a 30ft wide proscenium and was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. In August 1937 it was taken over by the Union Cinemas chain. A month after they took over, Union Cinema went bankrupt and were taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain. It was destroyed by fire on 24th March 1949, with only the façade remaining. It was never rebuilt.

During 1950 F.W. Woolworth purchased the site and built a store keeping the frontage of the cinema. it later became a Kwik Save supermarket. That has since closed and has been demolished.
