San Marco Drive-In

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog included Saint Augustine’s San Marco Drive-In, owner Dane Huff, capacity 350 cars.

In April 1958, the Tampa Times reported that a tornado blew down “the San Marco Outdoor Drive-In Theater on U. S. Highway 1”. A 1961 topo map showed a drive-in on US 1 north of town.

The January 25, 1960 issue of Boxoffice wrote: “E. C. Kaniaris recently closed his Beach Drive-In, St. Augustine Beach, when he began operating the San Marco Drive-In, also St. Augustine Beach”.

In April 1976, the state attorney’s office filed a civil nuisance suit over a “Skimpy Bikini Contest” at the San Marco that allegedly included nudity, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel.

A 1983 aerial photo showed no trace of the drive-in.
