A 1951 aerial photo showed the Wallace Drive-In ready for business, north of town at the intersection of US 117 and Stallings Road.

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog included the Wallace as one of the town’s two drive-ins along with the Pen-Lin Drive-In. The Wallace Drive-In had a capacity of 200 cars, owner E. C. Sanderson.

An incident on April 29, 1960 made regional news. Carbon monoxide killed two of the four patrons watching a movie from a hot rod with a dual exhaust but no tailpipes. The Charlotte Observer article described the Wallace Drive-In’s location as one mile north of town on U. S. 117.
