The Star Theatre was a silent movie house that had two locations in downtown Scottsbluff. B.A. Russell and W.E. Calhoun opened the first location for the Star Theatre on November 30, 1913. So successful was the Star Theatre that a new building was rumored to be constructed for it in 1914. However, that appears to have not taken place and the Star Theatre become single-person owned by Calhoun in 1915.

Calhoun would finally build the New Star Theatre, an expanded 500-seat venue, opening February 13, 1922 with Mae Murray in “Peacock Alley” supported by a two-reel Sunshine comedy short. Following his death in 1923, Mrs. Calhoun ran the venue. But in June of that year, William Ostenberg and the Gibraltar Enterprises circuit took on the venue to end the movie house competition in Scottsbluff.

Film exhibition ended at the Star Theatre in 1925 but it continued mostly with wrestling matches and sporadic live events for a short period. It was replaced by a Piggly-Wiggly grocery store location.
