The town of Humboldt has a new opera house in 1905 that experimented successfully with motion pictures. Just two years later, the town had its first dedicated movie theatre in the Electric Theatre that launched in the Odd Fellows fraternal hall on September 7, 1907. In the Germania Hall, the Star Electric Theatre then launched July 24, 1908 by Robert Pearson and Company. Pearson moved the location to a new building continuing as the Electric Theatre on December 14, 1908.

On March 16, 1909, the long-running Elite Electric Theatre opened for business. The Elite continued as a silent venture successfully competing not only against the electric theatres but, again, in the 1920s vanquishing two start-up movie theatres placed in the opera house - the Best Theatre and the Royal Theatre.

But operators, Mr. and Mrs. Reinert, decided to install Vitaphone sound and moved to the opera house turned New Elite Theatre at its relaunch on May 9, 1930. Likely, they felt that they could recoup their investment back faster. Unfortunately, for the Opera House, new operators took over the former Elite Theatre and relaunched there. The Cozy Theatre was the winner as the Opera House went dark while the Cozy continued at least to its 50th Anniversary in 1959.
