An extensive advance newspaper campaign was used to launch the Regent and its opening attraction: MGM’s silent feature “Flesh and the Devil” with John Gilbert and Greta Garbo. The Sydney Regent went on to become the first Australian cinema to present a full sound program, first to present CinemaScope – and first with Stereophonic Sound, which accompanied that widescreen process.
